I’m looking for a long-term scriptwriter to join my NBA documentary YouTube channel (113,000+ subscribers).
I’m looking for someone who already has extensive NBA knowledge and knows how to write high-retention YouTube documentaries. This isn’t a role for someone who simply summarizes games or lists statistics—I need someone who can turn NBA stories into compelling narratives that keep viewers watching from beginning to end.
The storytelling style I’m looking for is similar to these channels:
Please watch a few videos from these channels before applying. If you don’t think you can write in a similar documentary style, this position probably isn’t the right fit.
Every video is different, so I’m not looking for someone who follows the exact same formula every time. The writing should adapt to the concept of the video while always keeping one goal in mind: holding the viewer’s attention.
One of the biggest things I’m looking for is a writer who can create curiosity from the very beginning. The hook should immediately make the viewer want to know what happens next. Throughout the script, the story should continue building momentum rather than feeling like a list of facts.
Most importantly, the script should be able to stand on its own. Before submitting a script, ask yourself:
“Would this still be engaging if someone only read the words without seeing any visuals?”
If the answer is yes, then you’re on the right track. The visuals should enhance the story—not be the reason it’s interesting.
Responsibilities
- Research NBA players, teams, games, trades, controversies, historical moments, and compelling storylines.
- Write engaging documentary scripts (starting with 8–12 minute videos, eventually moving to 10–30 minute documentaries).
- Write strong hooks that immediately create curiosity and make viewers want to keep watching.
- Tell stories—not just present information.
- Structure scripts with strong pacing, suspense, and smooth transitions to maximize audience retention.
- Ensure all information is accurate through thorough research and fact-checking.
- Be open to feedback and revisions.
Requirements
- Extensive NBA knowledge is required.
- Previous experience writing YouTube documentary scripts is required.
- Strong storytelling ability.
- Excellent research skills.
- Ability to write conversational, engaging scripts that maximize viewer retention.
- Ability to adapt your writing style depending on the video’s concept.
- Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines.
- Looking for a long-term opportunity.
Compensation
Compensation will be discussed based on your experience, portfolio, and turnaround time.
How to Apply
Please include:
- Your best documentary scriptwriting samples (NBA or sports content is strongly preferred).
- Your rates.
- Your estimated turnaround time.
- Any previous experience writing NBA or sports-related content.
Applications without relevant writing samples will not be considered. I’m looking for someone who already knows how to write engaging, high-retention YouTube documentaries—not someone who simply summarizes information. A great script should create curiosity, tell a compelling story, and remain engaging even without visuals.
